At Stellar Doodle Kennel, we believe that responsible breeding is about much more than just producing puppies. Our goal is to raise healthy, well-socialized, and beautiful puppies that bring joy and happiness to loving families. Here’s how we do it:

Careful Selection of Breeding Stock:

• Every breeding dog at our kennel must be healthy, beautiful, and gentle. This is our foundation. We do not breed dogs with health problems.
• All of our dogs are taken to the vet for a thorough check-up. Together with our vet, we decide whether the dog is suitable for breeding. For females, we always perform a patella examination and check their hearts for any murmurs.
• We have higher standards for our male dogs since they could father many puppies during their lifetime. Every male undergoes DNA testing for hereditary eye diseases (PRA). We only breed with males that do not carry this disease, so it can’t be passed on to the puppies.
• Since Maltipoos can sometimes develop tracheal collapse, we also X-ray our male dogs to almost entirely eliminate this risk for their puppies.
• At Stellar Doodle Kennels, perfect patellas, heart murmur-free hearts, healthy tracheas, and freedom from hereditary eye diseases (PRA) are the minimum standards we expect from our males.

Optimal Care During Pregnancy and Birth:

• Our pregnant females are fed high-quality food and occasionally receive supplements. We make sure they get plenty of rest when they need it, but also enough exercise to stay in great condition. From my experience, healthy dogs have an easier labor.
• We feed the pregnant females multiple times a day to prevent them from having to eat too much at once.
• We provide a safe, clean, and peaceful environment for the birth. About a week before delivery, we separate the mother to give her privacy. Peace and security are the most important things. Our mothers know we’re here to support them, but we also ensure they have the intimacy they need during delivery. From experience, I know that the worst thing is for a breeder to be intrusive during birth. An inexperienced breeder can easily disturb the process with their own excitement. The focus should be on calmness and a quiet, supportive attitude, and that’s exactly what we provide for our mothers.

Early Socialization and Development:

• We start socializing the puppies from the moment they’re born, though we don’t overwhelm them at first. The first 2-3 weeks are all about peace and the mother’s loving care. If the mother is happy and healthy, the puppies will be too.
• As they grow, we increase physical contact with the puppies to build trust.
• We spend a lot of time with the puppies, and as they get older, we love on them more and more.
• Once the puppies begin climbing out of the whelping box, we start crate training them for potty training. We set up a separate area with bedding, and by the time they’re 7-8 weeks old, they’re well-trained to use that space for their business.

Important Note: We don’t rush the process of separating the puppies from their mother. Our philosophy is that the puppies should stay with their mom until they’re 8-10 weeks old because this helps them grow stronger, both physically and emotionally. When it’s no longer comfortable for the mother, we start the gradual separation process.

Comprehensive Health Care:

• Our vet visits regularly to check on the puppies and vaccinate them according to their age. We also deworm them regularly. In a reputable kennel, you will never find puppies with worms or fleas.
• During the rearing process, we pay special attention to developing a healthy gut flora. We occasionally provide supplements. Our puppies are raised on the highest-quality, proven food, usually premium kibble, but we also treat them to yogurt or other special foods.
• Every puppy is microchipped, but we don’t rush this process. Since Maltipoos and Cavapoos are small breeds, they typically receive their microchips around 8 weeks of age when they visit the vet.
• After 17 years of breeding, I firmly believe that puppies raised with love and emotional balance grow into healthy adult dogs. That’s why the atmosphere here is so important to us.

Matching Puppies with Loving Families:

• If someone is interested, we encourage them to come visit and spend time with the puppy they’re considering. Some people visit multiple times before taking their puppy home, and we’re happy to accommodate that. If anyone comes in person to pick up their puppy, we make sure to spend time answering questions, offering advice, and giving them a chance to bond with the puppy.
• We’re also happy to answer questions even after the puppies have gone to their new homes. Typically, the first 2 weeks are when most questions come up, and we’re always happy to help. Our goal is to make sure the puppies adjust well to their new family.
• We provide every family with a guarantee contract, an invoice, a DWKC pedigree, a vaccination book (which includes vaccinations and the microchip number), and food for the first period. It’s very important that the puppy eats the same food in their new home for the first while to help them adjust to all the changes in their life.
• If the puppy is traveling abroad and the owner wants assistance, we can help with the transport. Over the last 17 years, we’ve sent puppies to many countries worldwide. While we love when owners can visit us in person, we understand that it’s not always possible, and that shouldn’t be a barrier.
