What kind of dog is a Cavapoo?
Characteristics, Temperament, and Personality
The Cavapoo (also known as Cavoodle or Cavadoodle) is a joyful, smart, and affectionate hybrid dog breed, created by crossing a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle. Friendly and sociable with both people and other animals, especially children, the Cavapoo is easy to train and sheds very little, making it ideal for apartment living. While initially shy, they quickly become comfortable and affectionate. Not a guard dog, they are incredibly empathetic and can pick up on their owner’s emotions. Their size varies, weighing between 4 and 12 kg, with a coat that comes in many different colors. Though not yet purebred, they are growing in popularity. Their health is largely determined by the breeder and proper care.
What kind of dog is a Maltipoo?
Characteristics, Temperament, and Personality
The Maltipoo is a charming, small-sized mixed dog breed, created by crossing a Maltese and a Poodle. Playful, kind, affectionate, and intelligent, the Maltipoo is a companion that gets along well with people and other animals. Extremely adaptable and smart, they learn easily and enjoy spending time with their owner. Their coat sheds very little, making them often referred to as hypoallergenic. Typically weighing between 2 and 5 kg, their colors can range from cream, apricot, fawn, silver, black, to brown. A cheerful and loving dog, the Maltipoo is an excellent companion for both apartment and house dwellers. With responsible breeding and proper care, they can enjoy a long and happy life filled with love.
What is the difference between a Cavapoo and a Maltipoo?
Cavapoo
Parent Breeds: Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Poodle (usually Toy or Miniature).
Appearance: Cavapoos are typically a bit larger and sturdier than Maltipoos. Their coats can be straight, wavy, or curly, and they come in a variety of colors, including red, black, white, and tri-color (black, white, and tan).
Temperament: Cavapoos are generally calmer and more balanced than Maltipoos. They’re great with kids and other pets and love companionship. They might not enjoy being left alone for long periods. From our experience, they can be incredibly affectionate—sometimes even more so than Maltipoos. Both breeds love being by their owner’s side.
Exercise Needs: Cavapoos have moderate energy levels, so one longer walk or a few shorter walks a day is usually enough. If you have a big yard, that works too. They’re also fine in an apartment. If you lead an active lifestyle and want a hiking buddy, a Cavapoo might be the better choice.
Maltipoo
Parent Breeds: Maltese and Poodle (usually Toy or Miniature).
Appearance: Maltipoos are typically smaller and more delicate than Cavapoos. Their coats are usually curly or wavy, but they can also be straight. The most common colors are cream or apricot, though they can come in other colors too.
Temperament: Maltipoos are generally a bit livelier than Cavapoos. They’re just as affectionate with their owners and love to stay by their side. They thrive with their owner close by—”pocket rockets,” as we like to call them.
Exercise Needs: Maltipoos have lower exercise needs compared to Cavapoos, so shorter walks and playtime are usually enough for them. Because of this, a Maltipoo could be a better choice for smaller apartments.

How I Became a Breeder
I’ve had a special connection with man’s best friend since childhood. We had a dachshund named Kormos, who gave birth to many adorable puppies when I was in preschool. By the time I was 12, I had read countless books about dogs. I guess my path was pretty clear from a young age ☺
During high school and university, I spent a lot of my free time training dogs. Around that time, I also helped a friend train K9 police dogs. He specialized in training drug-sniffing dogs, bomb detection dogs, and anti-terrorism working dogs for the police and military. He was a legendary figure in the dog world. It was incredibly exciting! This period taught me a lot about dog behavior and psychology.
Shortly after finishing university, I moved out of my parents’ house and made my childhood dream come true. In 2007, I started Vitabull and became a dog breeder. I began with French Bulldogs. Over the years, I’ve had great success, and puppies from my Vitabull litters have gone to many countries around the world, including the USA, Canada, the UK, South Korea, Austria, Germany, Greece, Italy, Sweden, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Denmark, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, and Belgium, just to name a few.
I’m Ákos Szabó, a guy who’s loved dogs since I can remember. Although I studied management and worked briefly in a bank, I eventually realized I couldn’t do something that didn’t ignite my passion. The bank job was great and promising, but it wasn’t the path for me. So, I decided to pursue what I truly love—becoming a dog breeder! I’m still proud of that decision I made about 17 years ago. I’m the type of person who enjoys life and meeting new people. In my breeding journey, I especially love connecting with all kinds of wonderful people.

How Stellar Doodle Came to Be
I first learned about the Cavapoo and Maltipoo breeds from a breeder friend of mine. As soon as I saw these quirky, happy dogs, I instantly fell in love with them. What really drew me in was the idea that these little wonders come from the crossbreeding of two distinct breeds. In my opinion, this can help reduce the health issues often associated with the „overbreeding” of specific breeds. So, with great enthusiasm, I decided to start breeding these amazing new “types.”
In 2023, Stellar Doodle Kennel was born, along with our very first Cavapoo litter. The puppies were absolutely adorable and very healthy. The Cavapoo breed completely captivated me. Not long after, our first Maltipoo litter arrived, and I instantly fell in love with them too. I’m writing these words now in 2025, with more experience under my belt. It seems that my initial excitement for Doodle breeds was the right direction, and my ideas have proven to be successful.
Crossbreeding two breeds with careful selection can create something truly wonderful that enhances both the breeder’s work and the lives of the owners. On my website, I go into more detail about the concept of heterosis (which forms the foundation of breeding these breeds), but here’s the essence of it:
„Imagine you have two flowers: one is white, the other is yellow. If you cross these two flowers, the seeds could grow into flowers that are prettier, stronger, and produce more blooms than their parents. This is called heterosis. It’s as though the best traits of both parents combine to create a super offspring.”
I hope these wonderful Doodle-type dogs will continue to grow in popularity!
Why choose Stellar Doodle Kennel?
At Stellar Doodle Kennel, the health and well-being of our dogs are our top priority. Every dog we breed undergoes a thorough health check by an experienced veterinarian, who gives the final approval on whether the dog is suitable for breeding. For the females, this typically involves patella (knee) and heart exams. However, the standards are stricter for the males, as they will sire multiple litters. In addition to the same tests as the females, we also conduct an X-ray (trachea) and a DNA test. The DNA test helps ensure that hereditary eye diseases are not passed down. Our male dog, Brúnó, has passed all of these tests, so we can be confident that his puppies are highly unlikely to suffer from tracheal collapse or hereditary eye conditions. Unfortunately, not all breeders go to these lengths when screening their dogs.
When it comes to Maltipoos, we guarantee that your puppy will remain small. It can be quite a disappointment if you expect a tiny lap dog, only to find out it grows to 9-10 kg as an adult. Of course, you'll still love it and it will be adorable, but... that's not what you had in mind. Trust us, we've seen this happen on social media. That's why we offer a unique guarantee that your Maltipoo will stay small. If you get your Maltipoo puppy from us, it will most likely weigh between 3.5 and 4.1 kg as an adult. But we guarantee it will definitely stay under 4.5 kg. Of course, this applies to a healthy weight. Naturally, if your little companion gains weight from being overly spoiled, the above doesn’t apply ☺
To be more precise, we provide a pedigree certificate with each puppy. While it’s commonly claimed that Maltipoos and Cavapoos can’t be registered, this is not true. Although the world’s largest organization, the FCI, hasn’t yet recognized them, several smaller clubs are happy to register these breeds. We handle registrations through the UK’s DWKC club. This is important because it ensures that your Maltipoo is truly a Maltipoo, and your Cavapoo is genuinely a Cavapoo, not just a cute puppy with uncertain ancestry that will "turn into something" when it grows up.
I do this because I love dogs, and that shows in them ☺ By the time I was 12, I had read nearly every dog book available. I grew up with dogs and have had them in my life ever since. I’ve been a breeder for 17 years now, and I’m always happy to answer any questions honestly and openly.
Health guarantee for serious genetically inherited conditions.
Comprehensive veterinary check-up, including heart murmur evaluation.
Age-appropriate vaccinations and deworming.
Vaccination record and microchip.
DWKC pedigree – yes, Doodle breeds can have it too!
Top-quality care. Every puppy enjoys high-quality food and occasional supplements to support a strong immune system and healthy digestion. This helps them grow and thrive, giving them the best start in life.
Food for the first period. We want to make the transition as smooth as possible, so we provide some of the same food the puppies have been eating here. This helps them settle in more easily with their new family.
For international owners, we’re happy to arrange the puppy’s passport and transportation if needed. With nearly 17 years of experience, we make sure everything goes smoothly and safely for your new furry family member.
Each of our puppies is raised with love, which helps them settle in more easily with their new family. We don’t rush the weaning process or the separation from their mother; we allow them to stay with her as long as possible so they can continue to feel her care and attention.
Health-checked and screened parents. We prioritize breeding healthy parents to minimize the risk of hereditary diseases in the puppies.
Early potty training. While the puppy won’t be fully house-trained, we’ll take the first steps to get them started. We also introduce basic rules and help establish good habits.
Every two weeks, we send updates with photos of your reserved puppy, and if you have any questions, we’re always here to help! From our experience, the first two weeks are often the most crucial.
